SPK developed roadway and bridge plans for a 4.5-mile rehabilitation section of the Parkway East (Churchill to PA Turnpike). The project included roadway plans, sixteen (16) structure plans, traffic control, ITS, lighting and other also plans and waterway permits. SPK performed additional services for the Department without supplement to incorporate work from five (5) projects developed by others and incorporated into the A39 and A40 plans. Our subconsultant, FE provided engineering services to complete the Transportation Management Plan, traffic engineering analysis and traffic control details.

Mill Run Bridge Replacement - This project consisted of a new replacement single span, concrete spread box beam bridge to carry Broad Avenue (S.R. 4003) over Mill Run in the City of Altoona. The bridge design and traffic control plan were prepared for half-width construction to maintain traffic. The design accounted for the close proximity of two (2) residences and a major signalized intersection adjacent to the ends of the bridge. Additional design considerations included utility coordination to maintain utility lines across the bridge, traffic signal pole foundations in the abutment, ADA ramp design and turn restriction related detours and phasing.

Project Letting - January 2006

Hyde Park Road to the S.R. 4048 and S.R. 0356 Intersection - Westmoreland County -  SPK provided preliminary and final design engineering services for a 1.2 mile widening and resurfacing project.  The project consisted of widening an existing two-lane roadway to accommodate center left turn lanes throughout the roadway corridor between two (2) major traffic routes.  SPK completed pavement, drainage, traffic signal, traffic control, signing & pavement marking, and erosion & sediment pollution control design services.  SPK coordinated lengthy utility relocation efforts for overhead and underground facilities and worked closely with the Department to address traffic control concerns relative to high traffic volumes generated by the Kiski Area School District.
